How to connect Stripe
- Open Stripe → Developers → API keys.
- Click “Create restricted key”.
- Set Invoices and Subscriptions to Read. Leave everything else at None.
- Create the key and paste it in MotionMRR (starts with rk_live_).
- Pick a style and the months to show, choose what stays hidden, and render your video.
Official docs: Stripe API keys.
What MotionMRR can access
MotionMRR only accepts a restricted key (rk_live_…) with Read access to Invoices and Subscriptions. Before saving it, we send a request that a key with write access would accept: if Stripe doesn’t refuse it, the key is rejected. Secret keys (sk_…) are refused outright. The key is encrypted, and you can roll or delete it in Stripe at any time.
How your Stripe MRR is calculated
- Current month: MRR from your active and past-due subscription items, normalized to a monthly amount, with quantities and discounts applied. Metered prices are left out.
- Earlier months: estimated from paid subscription invoices, so the curve covers your whole history, not only today.
- Several currencies: converted with current ECB reference rates. Each subscription is read in the currency it’s actually charged in.
- Taxes: tax-inclusive prices stay inclusive, the way Stripe Billing counts MRR. No extra tax is added.
What the video shows
Your MRR curve draws itself month by month, a counter follows the line, and each milestone you crossed ($1K, $5K, $10K…) gets its moment. You choose per video whether to show the exact MRR, growth only, or just the shape of the curve. Export 16:9 for X and LinkedIn, or 9:16 and 1:1 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts on the Studio plan.
Known limits
- Tiered prices aren’t supported yet: the import stops with a clear message rather than showing a lower total.
- Past months are invoice-based estimates and can differ slightly from Stripe’s own Billing analytics, especially with complex discounts.
Stripe FAQ
Does MotionMRR match the MRR in my Stripe dashboard?
The current month uses the same inputs as Stripe Billing (active subscription items, monthly normalization, discounts). Past months are estimated from paid invoices, so they can differ a little from Stripe’s analytics.
Can MotionMRR change anything in my Stripe account?
No. The key must be restricted to Read on Invoices and Subscriptions, and we verify that it can’t write before accepting it.
Can I hide my exact MRR?
Yes. Each video can show exact MRR, growth only (“+81% in 6 months”), or just the shape of the curve.
